How Do I Verify a Ghostwriting Company’s Portfolio Before Hiring?
When you’re about to invest in a ghostwriting company, the portfolio is your best starting point to check credibility. But don’t just take what’s shown on their website at face value dig deeper.
Here’s what I recommend:
Ask for Samples in Your Genre – A company might showcase a general portfolio, but request samples related to your project (fiction, memoir, business content, etc.). This helps you see if their style matches your vision.
Check Published Work – If possible, ask for links to published books, articles, or whitepapers they’ve written. Seeing work that’s publicly available and credited (even discreetly) is a great trust signal.
Look Beyond the Shiny Covers – Portfolios can sometimes be heavy on design but light on actual writing quality. Always read the writing samples thoroughly for tone, flow, and clarity.
Speak Directly to Past Clients – A professional ghostwriting company should be able to connect you with references or share testimonials with verifiable names or organizations.
Watch for Transparency – If a company hesitates to share work, be cautious. NDAs are normal in ghostwriting, but reputable companies will still find a way to show style samples without breaching confidentiality.
In short, trust but verify. A good portfolio should not only look impressive but also prove the company can deliver the kind of writing you need.
